CompareKnock alternativesUpdated

Knock alternatives, priced at 1,000 and 10,000 monthly active users.

Knock is a hosted notification API that bills per message: 10,000 messages a month on its Free plan, then a $250 a month Starter plan with 50,000 messages and $0.005 for each one after that, with SAML SSO, SCIM, custom roles and translations on an Enterprise plan with no published price. Teams go looking for Knock alternatives when the message meter outgrows the product, when they need roles or translations without an Enterprise contract, or when they want a different shape of product altogether, such as a push-first platform.

This page lists six of them. For each one it says what the meter counts, what the free plan includes, where the first paid plan starts and who it suits, then puts them side by side in one table at 1,000 and 10,000 monthly active users. Every price was read off the vendor's own pricing page on November 8, 2026, and each section links that page. For Notifly against Knock alone, see the Notifly vs Knock comparison and Knock pricing in 2026.

Verified by the Notifly team: every price on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page that day, and each section links it.

How the prices on this page were worked out

Each vendor meters something different: Knock, SuprSend and MagicBell count every message or delivery, Courier counts sends, Novu and Notifly count the workflow event that starts a notification, and OneSignal counts monthly active users. To put them on one table, the page assumes a product that sends each active user four notifications a month on one channel, so 1,000 MAU means 4,000 sends and 10,000 MAU means 40,000. If your workflows fan out to two or three channels, multiply the per-message and per-delivery vendors' counts accordingly; the per-event vendors and OneSignal do not move.

Prices are the vendors' published self-serve list prices in US dollars, checked on November 8, 2026 at the pages linked in each section. Enterprise plans have no published price and are left out. Delivery fees from the email, SMS and push providers you connect are separate on every platform here, and are not included.

Notifly

Notifly is hosted notification infrastructure with one API for email, SMS, push, in-app inbox and chat, a visual workflow editor and the team features on an ordinary paid plan. It meters the trigger event: one workflow run is one event however many channels it reaches. The Free plan includes 10,000 events a month on every channel with no card, Pro is $19 a month for 50,000 events, and Team is $149 a month for 500,000 events with role-based access control, translations, custom environments and unlimited members. Only SAML or OIDC single sign-on and SCIM are Enterprise. See pricing.

Pick it when your bill is driven by message count across several channels, or you want roles and translations without talking to sales. Look elsewhere when you need Knock's in-app guides product, unlimited seats on a free plan, or a vendor sized for very large enterprise procurement.

Courier

Courier is a notification API with a visual template designer and a free Developer plan of 10,000 sends a month; its Business plan bills $0.005 per send, with no platform fee, and Enterprise is custom (courier.com/pricing). One send is one notification to one recipient however many channels it reaches, so fan-out does not multiply the count the way it does on Knock. Role-based access control and the audit trail are listed under Enterprise.

Pick it when non-engineers design templates in a studio and your volume is modest, since the bill starts at zero and grows linearly. Look elsewhere when you pass about 50,000 sends a month, where $0.005 a send is $250, or when you need roles below Enterprise. See Notifly vs Courier and Courier pricing in 2026.

SuprSend

SuprSend is a notification platform with workflows, a hosted preference page and an in-app inbox. Its Free plan includes 10,000 notifications a month; Essentials is $100 a month billed annually ($1,200 a year) for 50,000 notifications, with $2 per extra 1,000, and Business is $250 a month billed annually ($3,000 a year) for 50,000, with $5 per extra 1,000 (suprsend.com/pricing). The pricing page shows no monthly billing option. A notification is counted per user per channel, so a message that reaches someone by email and in-app counts twice. Multi-lingual templates arrive on Business; role-based access control, the audit trail and SAML SSO are Enterprise.

Pick it when you want unlimited team members on every plan, 30 days of logs on the free plan, or a hosted preference page and multi-tenant modelling from the Business plan. Look elsewhere when you want to pay monthly, your workflows fan out across channels, or you need roles before Enterprise. See Notifly vs SuprSend.

Novu

Novu is the open-source notification engine Notifly is built on, offered as Novu Cloud and as a community edition you host yourself. Novu Cloud's Free plan includes 10,000 events a month, three team members and 24 hours of activity history; Pro starts at $30 a month for 30,000 events with $1.20 per extra 1,000; Team starts at $250 a month for 250,000 events with role-based access control and unlimited members (novu.co/pricing). The community edition is free to run, and you operate it.

Pick it when you must run the platform on your own infrastructure, or you want the engine from the team that builds it. Look elsewhere when you want the team features on a self-serve plan under $250 a month, or you would rather not operate the platform. See Notifly vs Novu.

MagicBell

MagicBell is an in-app notification inbox with workflows and multi-channel delivery, strongest as a drop-in inbox for React, Svelte, Preact and Web Components. Its Builder plan is $0 for 1,000 deliveries a month, and its next plan, Startup, is $249 a month for 50,000 deliveries, then $0.0025 each, with five projects (magicbell.com/pricing).

Pick it when the inbox is the product and you want unlimited seats on every plan. Look elsewhere when you send more than 1,000 notifications a month but far fewer than 50,000: there is no plan between $0 and $249. See Notifly vs MagicBell.

OneSignal

OneSignal is a push-first customer messaging platform with mobile and web push, in-app messages, email and SMS, aimed at marketing and growth teams as much as engineers. Its Free plan covers up to 1,000 monthly active users for mobile push and in-app; Growth starts at $19 a month plus $0.012 per mobile MAU and $0.004 per web push subscriber, with 20,000 email sends included and $1.50 per 1,000 after that (onesignal.com/pricing). The meter is people, not messages, so sending more to the same users costs nothing extra.

Pick it when push and in-app campaigns to a consumer audience are the job and your message volume per user is high. Look elsewhere when your audience is large and lightly messaged, since 10,000 MAU is $139 a month before email overage, or when you need workflow fan-out across your own providers. See Notifly vs OneSignal, OneSignal pricing in 2026 and the OneSignal alternatives round-up.

What each one costs at 1,000 and 10,000 monthly active users

Four notifications per active user per month on one channel: 4,000 sends at 1,000 MAU, 40,000 at 10,000 MAU. Published self-serve prices, read on November 8, 2026; provider delivery fees not included.

Knock$0 (Free, 10,000 messages)$250 (Starter, 50,000 messages)Messages, one per channel reached
Notifly$0 (Free, 10,000 events)$19 (Pro, 50,000 events)Trigger events, whatever the fan-out
Courier$0 (Developer, 10,000 sends)$200 (Business, $0.005 × 40,000 sends)Sends, one per recipient
SuprSend$0 (Free, 10,000 notifications)$100 billed annually (Essentials, 50,000)Notifications, per user per channel
Novu Cloud$0 (Free, 10,000 events)$42 (Pro $30 for 30,000 + $1.20 × 10 extra thousand)Events
MagicBell$249 (Startup; Builder stops at 1,000 deliveries)$249 (Startup, 50,000 deliveries)Deliveries
OneSignal$0 (Free, up to 1,000 MAU)$139 (Growth, $19 + $0.012 × 10,000 MAU)Monthly active users

Two notes on the Knock row. Knock's pricing page says it does not hard-cap messages on the Free plan and lists no per-message price there, so a team at 40,000 messages is shown on Starter, the plan that covers it (knock.app/pricing). And on Knock a notification that reaches inbox and email is two messages, so a two-channel product at 10,000 MAU is 80,000 messages: $250 plus $0.005 × 30,000, or $400.

Where Knock still wins

Knock includes unlimited team members on every plan including Free, keeps 30 days of message logs on Free and Starter, and sells an in-app guides product, with paywalls, dialogs and nudges built from your own components, that none of the six alternatives above has an equivalent for. Its security and support organization is sized for large customers. If seats, guides or procurement weigh more than the meter, Knock is the honest recommendation, and the Notifly vs Knock page says so in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest Knock alternative?

At 10,000 monthly active users sending four notifications each on one channel, Notifly's $19 Pro plan is the lowest published price on this page, followed by Novu Cloud at about $42 and SuprSend's Essentials at $100 a month on annual billing. At 1,000 MAU every tool here except MagicBell is free. Prices were read on November 8, 2026.

Which Knock alternatives have a free plan?

All six. Notifly, Knock, SuprSend and Novu Cloud include 10,000 a month (events, messages, notifications or events respectively), Courier's Developer plan includes 10,000 sends, MagicBell's Builder plan includes 1,000 deliveries, and OneSignal's Free plan covers up to 1,000 monthly active users for mobile push and in-app.

Is Novu the same thing as Notifly?

Notifly is built on the open-source Novu engine and run as a managed, hosted service with its own plans; the client SDKs are open source. Novu offers the same engine as Novu Cloud and as a community edition you host yourself. The Notifly vs Novu page lays out where each puts the team features.

Why price alternatives by monthly active users when most of them bill per message?

Because MAU is the number product teams know. The page converts it with one stated assumption, four notifications per user per month on one channel, and shows the arithmetic in the table so you can swap in your own numbers. For a vendor that meters MAU directly, OneSignal, the MAU count is the bill.

Do these prices include sending costs?

No. Every platform on this page delivers through provider accounts you connect, such as SendGrid, Twilio or Firebase Cloud Messaging, and those providers bill you separately at their own rates. OneSignal is the partial exception: it includes 20,000 email sends on Growth and bills $1.50 per 1,000 after that.

How do I move a Knock workflow to Notifly?

Create a free workspace, connect the providers you already use with Knock, rebuild each workflow in the visual editor with the same steps, sync your users as subscribers over the API, then replace each Knock trigger with POST /v1/events/trigger. The Notifly vs Knock page has the step-by-step migration section.

See it on your own workflows.

One POST /v1/events/trigger for email, SMS, push, in-app and chat. 10,000 events a month, free, no card.
