Slack app
Add the Notifly Slack app to a workspace, connect it to Notifly, send to a direct message or a public channel, remove it, and see what data it holds.
The Notifly Slack app delivers the chat step of your Notifly workflows to Slack, so you do not have to create or host a Slack app of your own. It only posts messages. If you would rather use your own Slack app, connect it as a chat integration instead (see Channels and providers).
Install and connect
- Open the Slack integration page and choose Add to Slack. Slack shows the two permissions the app asks for; approve them for your workspace.
- Slack sends you to the Notifly connection page. Sign in to Notifly (or create a free account). The page shows the Slack workspace name and team ID, the Slack user ID of the person who approved the install, and the Notifly environment it will connect to, which is the one selected in your dashboard. Only continue if you installed Notifly in that workspace yourself.
- Press Connect workspace. Nothing is connected until you do. An approval that is never connected is discarded after 15 minutes; start again from step 1.
You need permission to write integrations in the Notifly organization to connect a workspace.
Send a message
Add a Chat step to a workflow and trigger it for your own Notifly user. The Notifly bot sends you the message as a direct message.
To post in a public channel, open the subscriber in the dashboard, go to its Credentials tab and add a Slack channel, with the channel's ID, to the Notifly Slack credentials. You can also create a slack_channel channel endpoint through the API. The app can post in public channels without being invited to them. A subscriber with both a channel and a direct-message link gets the message in both places.
Limits
Messages sent through the Notifly Slack app are limited to 300 per month per Notifly environment. To send more, connect your own Slack app in Notifly.
Permissions
The app asks for two bot permissions and nothing else:
chat:write: send messages as Notifly.chat:write.public: send messages to public channels it has not joined.
It cannot read your messages, channels or members.
Remove the app
In Slack, remove the app from your workspace's app settings. Slack tells Notifly, which then deletes the stored connection, its token, and the Slack user and channel IDs saved for that workspace, in every Notifly organization that connected it. You can also remove the Notifly Slack integration in the Notifly dashboard, or delete the organization. To add the app again, start from Add to Slack.
Data the app holds
When you connect a workspace Notifly stores the workspace ID and name, the ID of the app's bot user, the bot token (encrypted at rest and never shown in full), the Slack ID of the person who approved the install, and any Slack channel IDs you add as destinations. Notifly uses this only to deliver the notifications you configure. Notifly does not use Slack data to train machine-learning or AI models. The full wording, retention periods and how to request access or deletion are in the privacy policy.
